About ATOM
Artists of the Opera Missing (ATOM) is a collective of Indigenous and settler artists who have come together to extend the mission of Missing, a chamber opera created in collaboration to honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
All members of ATOM were part of the original production, forming lasting relationships through the process of developing the work in consultation with Indigenous communities around Victoria and Vancouver, and later in Regina, Prince George and Anchorage Alaska. Each performance began with a free presentation for the families of the victims, moments that were deeply heartbreaking and that made the collective’s mission even more clear.
What began as a shared artistic act has grown into an ongoing commitment to bring the piece to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, fostering dialogue, remembrance, and accountability. The spirit of listening and respect that shaped the original creation continues to guide ATOM as we launch the semi-staged production for touring and share the first commercial recording of the opera, ensuring the work reaches new audiences across Canada and internationally.
ATOM’s purpose is to use music as a bridge for listening and mourning, to honour the missing, and to create space for truth and healing.
